In my last post I told you guys about my She-Ra chibi, Rainbow Brite and Jem and the Holograms I created. My series of Eighties Icons expanded with the creation of Lady Lovely Locks and Candy Candy.
Candy Candy and Lady Lovely Locks
One of the eighties television series I watched, was Lady Lovely Locks. This series did, as far as I can remember, not run for very long in the Netherlands. But I still remember Lady Lovely Locks and her sidekicks the Pixietails. But the absolute highlight of eighties series to me is Candy Candy. The story of orphan girl Candy Candy, her love for Anthony, and her relationship with her best friend Annie, is something I will never forget. Part of this is because of the beautiful designed characters and backgrounds.
Unfortunately the series never got a rerun as far as I know. How I would wish to watch it again, and see if it still leaves the same impression as back in the days.
Candy Candy therefor was of course a MUST in my Eighties Icons chibi series.
So my chibis now contain five ladies that to me personal played a prominent role in the eighties. But it doesn't stop here of course. A next series is in the works, so please check my page of illustrations, or my Instagram account @saskiafrankensaers.
What else am I working on?
Last year to me personally has been a very eventful year. Some very deep lows have passed. Like when my hubbie had to undergo openheart surgery when I was 23 weeks pregnant with our baby. I'm happy to say he passed with flying colors, but it was a very tough and stressful time. When you're pregnant and making plans together, the last thing you expect is having to ask that question. The question of how you would like to have things arranged if... I'm very thankful that my hubbie came through okay. But then...
I myself was admitted to Sophia Children's Hospital when I was 31 weeks pregnant, and with five more weeks to go until my pregnancy leave. It turned out I had pre-eclampsia and HELLP-syndrome. To make matters even worse, our baby had severe stunted growth. The plan was to keep him in my belly for as long as possible. But after only four days plans changed because his heartbeat showed he was in distress. Therefor our boy was delivered through c-section after only 31 weeks and 5 days. A teeny tiny human who measured only 32cm, and weighed only 1100 grams. A long six weeks followed where our boy started his life in an incubator, followed by a heated crib, and after that a normal crib. I will not discuss the details here, but you can imagine 2019 to me was not what I hoped it would be. We have been blessed with a beautiful boy though, one who makes you fall in love with his smile. And that makes up for so much.
Slowly I'm starting to process everything that's happened last year. I'm now thinking of creating a series of oil paintings expressing my emotions. Check this sneak peek of what I'm currently working on. And of course, check my site and my Instagram account form time to time for more news!
